This week we chat with Kevin Fitzpatrick who, since the late '90s, has been profiling New York City's most fun bars and bartenders ay NYCBP.com. He discovered Coyote Ugly well before Hollywood ever did and is a great resource for finding bars that work hard to make their customers happy.
The success of NYCBP.com inspired Kevin to start his own site-building business and now claims several bars as his clients.
Site: NYCBP.com
Description: Guide to the best bartenders in New York City
Webmaster Name: Kevin Fitzpatrick
Webmaster E-mail: kevin@nycbp.com
Birth Date of Site: November 10, 1998
Traffic Data: 15,000-20,000 uniques a week
1. Aside from the obvious perk of having a lot of guys come to your site to masturbate, what's the best part about running a web site dedicated to female bartenders in New York City?
Paul, the site's about intoxication, not masturbation. In the 3 ½ years that nycbp.com has been online, you're the only one who continually writes in to say that they are jacking off to the pictures. Put away the Kleenex, please. The best part about running this site is it's given me an opportunity to meet a lot of terrific, fun, interesting New Yorkers. And get really, really drunk with them.
2. Give me a rundown of the best bars to go to each night of the week.
Monday: Nice Guy Eddie's to see Susie
Tuesday: The Library to see Elizabeth
Wednesday: Jimmy' Corner to see Anique
Thursday: Who's On First to see Chaundra and Liani
Friday: Coyote Ugly for Sara & Kimmy
Saturday: Doc Holliday's to see Joanna & Stacy
Sunday: The Village Idiot to see Myriam
3. Do you think bar owners embrace web promotion as much as they should?
They are starting to. It's a lot better than it was three years ago. Bartenders tell their managers & owners that customers are showing up merely because they saw them online, and they like that. Bar owners only care about one thing: the bottom line. If a web site brings them business, they are all for it.
4. Do hottie bartenders who get free pub from your site embrace you as much as they should? (And, yes, we want details.)
Have any bartenders fucked me to get on the site? No. Do I get free drinks? All the time. There are other benefits. Last summer I needed a date for a wedding at St. Patrick's Cathedral. I took a bartender from a cowboy bar. Nobody that was there remembers the fucking wedding, but they all remember her.
5. You gave up drinking for Lent and lasted one night. Are you not very religious or not big on willpower?
"Lead me not into temptation; I can find the way myself."
-- Rita Mae Brown
6. What are some of the more interesting ways you've promoted NYCBP.com?
I printed up really tight baby-doll shirts with "nycbp.com" written across the tits and handed them out to bartenders. I gave out cool pocket T-shirts with the URL across the back to local bouncers, doormen, bar-backs, and alcoholic regulars. Why don't you wear yours more often?
7. So, do you make any money off this gig? (And don't even try to tell me that Amazon affiliate page brings in more than $1.20/month.)
You are so 1999. This is fucking 2002. I get my money generated by the cross-marketing that happens. The bartenders' site gets attention for my other businesses. Nycbp.com drives traffic to my web development business. This month alone, I'm making 5 sites for 5 bars. I'm making my living off of this.
8. List three web sites you couldn't do without.
News: New York Post
Sex: Belladonna's World
Humor: Find a Death
I don't know where PaulKatcher.com falls into any of these categories.
9. Let's settle this once and for all. Which bar has the hottest bartenders in New York?
Pound for pound, The Library, with Who's On First a very close second.
10. PaulKatcher.com is updated every Sunday night. How often do you visit?
I admit I go there every Sunday to see how much smoke you're blowing up Time Warner's ass, skinny web sluts you've found, and how close you'll come to crossing the line and just embrace porn sites and link to them.
11. Why did you ever introduce me to that psychopath Mark from Who's on First?
Because Hank the Angry Drunken Dwarf was dead and you needed some weirdness in your life. This ain't Syracuse, bubby.
12. What's next for NYCBP.com? (And there had better be something 'cause I'm sick of going there and not seeing any updates.)
I want Oxygen Network to do a special on me and the girls. Or maybe E! "Wild On" with Brooke Burke. Or me and Emeril, out on the down, doing shots on Avenue A. I'd like to do a navel shot out of Martha Stewart on GMA, and a funnel with Charles Gibson, at Who's On First.
