Paul,
This time while you're in town, I'd encourage you to hit up the Babe Ruth museum. Haven't been there in MANY years but I remember it being very cool and I know it's grown quite a bit for the past few years. http://www.baberuthmuseum.com/home.asp
Hope you enjoy your brief stay in Bal'mr.
Wow, did the Baltimore Sun actually pay Kevin Cowherd for that article? That was the most unimpressive piece of crap I've ever read.
Bowling League Jacket?
And he made fun of the NY accent? That Bal'moor accent is no treasure...believe me.
Is it a bad thing to expect to win every year? Especially when you wind up being right a lot of the time?
What a moron.
Well, if you're a New York fan, sure you'd think it was a piece of crap. He told me he was from New York, I think having lived here for 25 years. And he was a nice dude.
I just wish I was able to give him some snappier quotes. I was walking around in Queens at the time, and I think being in Mutts territory affected my brain.
All this fan stuff is all relative anyway. The O's fan they interviewed came off as a total ass, but of course they aren't all that way. Same as I'm not indicative of the Yankees fans described in the story's lead.
Now tell me again why parents should spend a yard to bring their kids to see steroid freaks play and hear the fans yell that the other team "sucks"?
'Cause what could we possibly have that you couldn't already enjoy in McHenry?
I don't know. Breathable air?
If you're trying to sell Orioles fans as ruder than Yankees fans, you're not going to have a heckuva lot of buyers.
Ahh, misread your quote. Well, the zing of McHenry vs. NYC is gone now.
I've been to Camden Yards twice, in '03 and '04, and that was enough. Both times there were problems, including Red Sox fans looking to start trouble, but it wasn't that bad in 2003. In fact, I could say I enjoyed myself the first time, even if some old lady said YANKEES SUCK right in my face.
The second time I was in much better seats (three rows back from the field, a bit beyond third base) and the quality of fan was in the dirt. There was some loudmouth (eventually ejected) that was irritating and obnoxious the whole game. In fact, he was heckling Jeter before the game, and Jeter looked at him with the most intense dislike I've ever seen in Derek. I got a couple of good pictures out of it, even though I was laughing (I felt bad 'cause I didn't want Jeter to think I was laughing at him; I was laughing at what a jackass the guy was). Anyway, that's the day Jeter broke out of his horrendous slump for good, so maybe the guy was motivation.
So between the smuggled bottles of Southern Comfort, the racial slurs against Matsui and the hispanic Park employees, and the overall hostility, I decided it wasn't worth it to make a return trip this year. I had a much better time at Citizen's Bank Park last year, anyway. At least there the frustrated baseball fans don't take it out on New York AS OFTEN.
If I'm going to spend money on baseball, I'd rather be in the comfortable confines of my own park. Screw Baltimore anyway, they don't deserve my money.
I just wanted to clarify that the loudmouth was sitting directly behind me, so when I was worried about Jeter's opinion it's only because he was staring at the drunk breathing down my neck. I had a jersey that said YANKEES on it, so either he knew I was a fan or he thought I was an asshole. Or he didn't see me. :(*
*emoticon signifies sad emotional state
do me a favor, while your down there run into the bullpen and bitch slap gordon until he realizes that we need him to pitch like he did the majority of last year instead of like the winp who threw up in the bullpen during the alcs! later
Rob
Sorry about the road trip results... at least you were in a beautiful stadium!
