Photos: Navy Crushes Army in Philly
(I'll be in Jamaica through Friday, and so this will be the last post for about a week, as I continue to spread the word of PK.com across the globe. Twelve countries alone in 2004. How 'bout that? Have a great time without me. Trust that I will, too. The recently re-launched forum is open for you to discuss whatever you want amongst yourselves.)

I attended my first Army-Navy game on Saturday and it was everything I expected it to be — a bore.

Not that I didn't enjoy the company of my friends. Not that I didn't marvel at the new Lincoln Financial Center. Not that I didn't appreciate the pageantry. Not that I didn't love waiting in line for a hour to clear security, what with the President in attendance. (OK, that was bullshit.)

But as an outsider looking in, I couldn't get into it. I know it means a lot to the Midshipmen and Cadets, but I kept thinking, "Aren't we the ones who are supposed to have an unhealthy obsession with insignificant matters?" Who gives a shit about beating an Army football team that since 2000 has gone 1-10, 3-8, 1-11, 0-13 and 2-9. That's 7-52 since the turn of the millennium. Ugly, man.

I really did enjoy John Feinstein's book A Civil War about the rivalry and the life of a student-cadet. You learn quickly how practice is the easy part of these guys' days and how much the Army-Navy game means to them. But I got into the story more than the game. I guess that's the point.

Cool, though, seeing the fly-overs (including Air Force One) and parachute jumpers. Wish I had good pics of those. I have posted some pics from Saturday afternoon, but none too great.

Hey Katch,

Have fun on the next leg of your 2004 World Tour! Feel free to keep the pics to yourself on this one - just kiddin.

Had a blast in Philly this weekend with our gang of idiots - despite the lopsided game. Though you may be back from your trip before I've fully recovered from my 16 hour drink marathon.

No pictures of our hungover, Pats and Geno's cheesesteak taste-test? Love Philadelphia, but that tradition is WAY overrated. I get better cheesesteaks in Wilkes-Barre, sorry...

And how 'bout them Giants?!

Argh.

* I forgot to take pics of Geno's, Anchorman. Been there before, though. I thought the cheesesteak the night before at Champions was better, actually.

I think we set the record for fart jokes in a 30-hour span. (Sorry, Toys R Us customers. Speaking of, TRU sells a VHS tape title Double Teamed!, about two WNBA players.)

Car comes to get me in 90 minutes. The dispacher was quite jealous. He wished me a "bangin'" time. Can't sleep now, but I'm hoping a Bloody Mary and a sleeping pill on the plance does the trick. Guess I'll fire up the Madden 2005.

* Giants suck. Coughlin clearly played a QB before he was ready to give them a shot at winning. No way the Giants are a better team with Eli under center instead of Warner. I guess I'll keep waiting for one good game and some promise of things to come.

My youngest son's coach went to the Academy and frankly told his players that if Navy didn't win he was going to be in a rotten mood on Sunday. Alums....sheesh.

Enjoy the sunshine. It's raining and 45 right now in Chicago, so I'm pretty much just plain green with envy about your vacation.....

I am disappointed that you did not enjoy the game and what Philadelphia has to offer. The game is a blowout ever year, but that is a given. The tradition, rivalry and pagentry is something everyone should see. I have the best time every year, and this weekend wasn't any different. Then again, I am a chick and it was a sausage fest...a sausagefest in uniform. My nipples are hard just thinking about it.

I agree the security check was a bit much and lines too long, but the President was in attendance so clearly it was understandable. The Linc is a great stadium and I am glad that they hold the game there.

Geno's (cleaner and better), Pat's and Tony Lukes are the only places to get authentic Philly cheese steaks. Everything else is just imitation. They are just greasy fat meat with cheese...an aquired taste. Good for drunken state, not good for hangover.

Have a great time in Jamaica. I am jealous. I desperately need sun, fun, a tan and some ganga.

Completely off topic...

Press conference at 7:30PM tonight to discuss the future of Coach P. *fingers crossed*
