Europe Trip Update: London
Today this site turns into a blog. I've always treated this space as a magazine column rather than a journal, but I wanted to get some thoughts down for my family and friends.

I've slept maybe eight hours in three nights. We leave soon, around 7 a.m., for Amsterdam, where I don't think sleep will be on the menu, either. Have met only a couple of people on my tour, but a bunch from other tours. Last night at the hotel pub, I could see how returning groups have bonded, and so I am excited about that.

Man, this place is expensive. Usually, leaving New York brings with it a respite from $5 beers, but not here. And it rained like a bastard last evening, relegating me to taking a three-block cab ride that cost $7. Met a girl from Youngstown, Ohio, who'd never heard of Bruce Springsteen's Youngstown, which is like being from Detroit and having never heard of Detroit Rock City by KISS or being from Boston and never having heard of This Place Sucks the Big One by The Paul Katcher Experience.

I have much deper thoughts about my trip so far. Th last few months -- few years, actually -- have ben quite profund, but my time and writing abilities are limited right now, so this quick note will have to do for now. Hope to have a post from the Netherlands.

True you won't find "sleep" on the menu in Amsterdam, but what you find on the "menu"... will help you sleep...so to speak.

Have an awesome time Paul.

Hey - enjoy Amsterdam - word is that the Dutch just might start limiting or outright abolish the weed tourism that has been in effect for about 30 years now.

That aside, here's the deal. You have to go to Barney's Breakfast Bar. A real Irish breakfast, served all day and well into the night along with the requsite bongs and insanity herb. Last time I was at Barney's I met a bunch of kids from Israel and this seriously burnt platinum hippie who traveled to places like Goa and Amsterdam 6 months of the year and engineered big time records in LA the rest of the year. All this over a bowl of Purple Haze and a plate of eggs, rashers and blood pudding. I weep as I think of it.

And you have to go to Teaser's, very close to Centraal Station, on the Dam. Utterly cheesy, but it is the Netherlands Hooters but waaaaay better. As in, the Red Light District is a block away.

Yo' dude, thanks for the update. Perhaps by the time you make it back, the Yankees will all be hitting their weight!

Remember what they say about travelling in Europe: Stay away from Italian Taxis; German Police; English Cooking; and the French!

Take a pic on the Menu's in Holland and post them on the site.

PK please go to Teasers in Amsterdam, I've heard of that place too. Get back in one piece, we have the booze cruise on May 27 for you to attend!

Dudes,I stopped into Teasers just before we left Amsterdam for Germany. It is like Hooters, only with bar dancing from the chicks in tight panties. Pics to come when I get back.

why do u hate Boston so much? Separate the red sox and boston like i separate NYC and the Yankees.

I don't really hate the city of Boston. I'm just kidding around. It's part of the make-up of this site -- take a hit at Mets and Red Sox fans every day or so. They gotta come to expect it by now, but I have great friends who are fans of both and who are from Queens and Boston.
