Pussy of the Year: Connecticut Representative Christopher Shays
I've got some New York-related links to get out, and what better lead than a New Year's Eve recap on CNN.com titled "New York Has a Safe New Year's Celebration and Quiets Naysayers".

You may have caught wind earlier in the week of this quote from Connecticut representative Christopher Shays, who shared his thoughts on the sanity of ringing in the new year in Times Square:

"You gotta be a fool, frankly, to go on New Year's night to Times Square. I mean, I can't understand why people do that. Just one hand grenade thrown in the air and people panicking. It's just too tempting a target."

Now, there are a lot of reasons I avoid Times Square on New Year's Eve, but fear is not one of them. Fear is not what built our skyline. Fear is not what inspires Broadway actors, dancers and musicians to chase their dreams. Fear is not what makes New York the financial and cultural capital of the world. Talent, determination and ambition are not only encouraged but required to thrive here. But fear? No, sir.

Our streets welcome people of all backgrounds and interests. Unless you're a pussy. Then you can stay in your own paradise, like Connecticut.

How Wild Was the Party? Ask the Army With the Brooms — It's a dirty job, but somebody has to clean up Times Square after the party ends. The New York Times takes a look.

Lucky Cheng's Protests Against Zagat's Review — The New York Post sums it thusly: "A popular transvestite-themed restaurant is throwing a queen-sized hissy fit at the Zagat Survey, claiming its 'unfair' bad review is dragging their business down."

Rao's Mob Theme Finally Authentic — The New York Post says the recent murder at the famous Harlem restaurant fills the void after years of hogwash regarding its mob aura.

For New York Mobsters, Florida Always a Second Home — From the piece: "South Florida has long been deemed 'open' territory for the Five Families — Bonnano, Colombo, Gambino, Genovese and Lucchese — that dominate New York organized crime. All have had a presence in the area since the 1930s."

Comments: Pussy of the Year: Connecticut Representative Christopher Shays

People who say negative stuff about NYC never reallly experienced the city (and are better off staying in CT.). NYC has everything for everybody, so I hate when people talk shit about it. I have traveled all over the world, and NYC is my favorite city.

Lucky Chengs is a fun little place to go to at least once while you are in NY. The food is ok, but the atmosphere is incredible. Nothing like getting lap dances from a man dressed as a woman who is prettier than most women. The queens in NY are the best, too.

I went to Lucky Cheng's once (ONCE) when I was 21, with a couple of coworkers who'd been dating. They mentioned the Chinese food and "forgot" to tell me about the cross-dressing employees.

I don't remember how the food is. I kept playing "Guess Who Has the Penis?" in my mind as I scanned the room for women. It wasn't fun for me.

Lucky Chengs is a dangerous place for STRAIGHT men. The biggest problem is that the cross dressers are so good looking masquerading as women that straight men can't tell the difference. Men are afraid to drink while there in fear that they may leave with a he/she or point one out as attractive in front of his friends.

I am a good friend, and I let people know ahead of time, if we are going there, what it is all about. Just another place to eat asian food and have good old dirty fun with NYC queens.

Shays needed to keep his comments to himself in this case. It doesn't help the country one iota to say what he said, and he is foolish not to know that.

I live in Milwaukee, and have an acquaintance who lives in a suburb 30 miles west of Milwaukee who is afraid to go downtown. She's an educated woman with a husband and kids, and she's truly afraid terrorists are going to hit downtown Milwaukee, so she avoids it as often as she can.

Now, I can't read minds, but I'm pretty sure downtown Milwaukee isn't on the top of Al Qaida's list. It's comments like the ones that Shays made that instills fear into people, and I'm amazed that he isn't savvy enough to be aware of that.

I'd be more damn worried about freezing to death then getting blown up by terrorists in Milwaukee!

As for Shays- nothing like yelling FIRE in a crowded theater to get people's attention...if there's anything worse than idiot congressmen (and women, no discrimination here) it's idiot congressmen who try to get press by pressing our panic buttons. There is risk in everything we do- be it walking across the street or demonstrating in front of the White House or celebrating in, well, Bridgeport, Connecticut.

It's the same old shit: a person in a leadership- or aiming for leadership- position manipulating the worries of a concerned public, making a big (or bigger) deal out of something that touches the hearts and minds of said public, and then pretending like HE (or she) knows the answer to the "problem" and can fix it.

I'll say one thing for New Yorkers- the press, the politicians, the people- they don't suffer fools gladly.

It's true Lucy, we're supposed to get six inches of snow today! Brrrr!

Hopefully, the snow will cause Brett Favre and Ahman Green to fumble over and over again (as I am the lone Bears fan in Wisconsin).

Yes I agree CT is a paradise. Just WONDERFUL! (insert sarcasm here) I would list getting run over by millions of people and cops on horses (happened to me) then worry about a hand grenade being thrown in the air. People in CT and from CT are idiots.

Yes I am one too!
