Photos: Halloween 2003 in NYC
I didn't exactly capture the scene in the city — was so worn down from a week of late nights that I slept after work and didn't leave the apartment till 11:30 p.m. — but I did get some good shots at the sexiest costume contest at Doc Holliday's in the East Village. Plus, everyone's favorite, artsy Lincoln Center photos!

Other New York Links:

Toilet Call Paralyses Transport Network — Some dude dropped his cell phone in a train's toilet and left thousands of commuters stranded. And now, Metro-North Railroad may seek compensation.

Marathon-Viewing Bars on First Ave. — MurphGuide.com's recommended watering holes to grab a pint and watch the marathon. My tip: watch a little from inside Central Park, well before the finish line. There's much less of a crowd, a pretty backdrop and, hopefully, good photo-ops when P. Diddy comes around winded.

Queens Dad Stabbed By Teen Ghouls — A man walking with his wife and baby in a stroller was nearly stabbed to death by a gang of teens who had been tossing eggs at passing cars. They fled before cops arrived.

So what did you dress up as?

Posted by lucy at November 1, 2003 9:33 PM

I didn't dress up. I don't even have a good excuse.

I wore my Iowa Public Television "College
Wrestling" hat, given to me by the Iowa
State head wrestling coach, and a
University of Iowa wrestling T-shirt. I
have to support all sides, you know.

I went as Dan McCool, veteran sports
reporter for the Des Moines Register, and
the main guy who covers Iowa wrestling.

We usually wear similar outfits taken
from the wardrobe of "Animal House."

I e-mailed him and told him about my
costume. He wrote back saying that if I
went looking like him, I would be locked up.

Well, he was wrong about that, but I did
drink some beers to honor both him and the beginning this weekend of the 2003-04 college wrestling season.

Eddie, that was a great costume. Some took me a minute to figure out, but yours was easy: Des Moines Register college wrestling writer, of course!

Aw, shucks, Paul.

I wanted to enter the sexiest costume
contest at Doc's, but if I took off my
shirt then my friend Dan would have
been right about me getting locked up.

What a let down. I thought for sure we were going to get to see pictures of you in your finest thong in the sexiest costume contest. Next year?

Posted by meg at November 2, 2003 6:46 PM

You know, literally thousands of people
asked me on Halloween to wear a thong.
I'll borrow one from one of my Round
Card Girlz friends. But I don't think
they make them in XXL.
