Manny Ramirez IS an ass. I also know why his team won't win. Did you notice after the game during his interview, everything out of his mouth was "me" and "I"?
Seems to me when other players from other teams recap the game (can I use Jeter as an example?), it is "we" and "us".
Manny doesn't have the team spirit, he is out for himself. And I thought they should have just booted him from the game when he was yelling "bullshit" at the umpire who called a strike on him.
He is just a bad excuse for a "professional" athlete. Can him.
I can't wait for his Yankees/Red Sox series. It's one of the great rivalries in world sport. They show the play offs live in Australia too so i'll be watching it LIVE on TV for once! I assume that Contaras will be usued in relief at some point in this series. I reckon that could play a big factor in how the Yanks go. Prediction: Yankees in 7.
Lets go Yankees!! Sorry about the A's losing Paul, but Yanks/Sox is a much better series to be watching
Contreras should play a big role in relief. The Yankees' pitching is far superior to the Sox. Aside from Martinez and Lowe both used last night Boston's staff is less than average. The Yanks have a fourth starter (Wells) who's a postseason standout, a long-reliever (Contreras) who won seven of nine starts this year with a 3.30 ERA, and the best closer in baseball. Mussina, Pettitte and Clemens give us an even matchup with the starters in every game at worst.
Soriano, Jeter, Giambi, Williams, Posada, and Matsui ain't a bad way to start a lineup, either. This ain't exactly the 1980s Cardinals.
Yanks in six.
It was hard watching my A's lose again last night. I'm kinda ok with it since the Yankees probably would have destroyed them, and it will be fun watching the Red Sox lose to the Yankees again. All I can ask for is a Clemens heater right in the middle of ManRam's back. Walking to first base like that was chicken shit.
Manny is such an ass. I can't believe I have to endure people bad mouthing Bonds for "showboating" when he homers. I've been going to Giants games for ten years since I moved here from NY and I've never seen Bonds do anything like that. Especially when a homer made him what, 1 for 29?
It took me about 2 seconds of footage from Jillian's to root for the A's last night. Besides, an A's win would have meant the Yankees coming out here. Makes me want to buy an airline ticket, fly home, see the family and scalp a ticket at Yankee Stadium (damn the cost!)
When the Yankees whomp the Sox I'm gonna call The Connecticut Yankee (Boston bar here in SF) and tell them the expression has been changed. It's now Death, Taxes, and the Sox losing to the Yanks.
Those camera shots inside Jillian's were so perverse. Who didn't want to see those drunken animals crying at the end?
During last night's game, I thought the Red Sox would win the battle of public opinion, garnering even more fans with their grit and sympathy for Damon. But I think Manny turned off a lot of people. Who could possibly want that guy to succeed?
"Manny is such an ass. I can't believe I have to endure people bad mouthing Bonds for "showboating" when he homers. I've been going to Giants games for ten years since I moved here from NY and I've never seen Bonds do anything like that."
so you've been going to Giants games for ten years and NEVER saw Bonds showboat? are you blind? This year ALONE, Bonds has homered in multiple clutch situations and has just STOOD at home plate, admiring yet another home run, and didn't leave home plate till the ball dropped in the stands...I believe this occured around the time his father was ill and he took leave from the team...go check the tape, you ignorant fuck. and please, with all this taunting talk, its not that big of a deal..it only seems like it when your on the opposite end of it...just looking at Tejada's face makes me think he's taunting everyone.
"The Yanks have a fourth starter (Wells) who's a postseason standout, a long-reliever (Contreras) who won seven of nine starts this year with a 3.30 ERA, and the best closer in baseball."
The Yanks DID have the best closer in baseball...about 2 years ago...Rivera has demonstrated that he is not lights out against the sox this season, nor has any Yankee pitcher except Pettite (who could truly be the difference maker). Contreras is unproven and Wells got smacked around by a similar Anaheim offense last year. This series will go 7 games and will come down the the bullpens, or lackthereof.
If manny ends up in Yankee pinstripes next year will he be an ass then also?
If Manny acted like an ass in Pinstripes, then he would be an ass, yes. But players have a habit of not acting like pompous, spoiled jerks around here, a reputation Boggs, Strawberry, Clemens may have had elsewhere. If they do (Mondesi, Sierra Part I), then they're out.
"go check the tape, you ignorant fuck."
- Real tough talk on an internet site, Chris.
Read my statement. I never claimed Bonds doesn't showboat. He does. But not to the extent Manny did last night.
Pull your head out of your ass and kiss it, you should consider yourself lucky we'll never meet and have the honor of replacing your head with my foot, tough guy.
Hey Paul:
i told you we would see you in the playoffs
in an e-mail that said who would of thought sox fan & yankees fan could get along
i agree with the behavior of Manny (it would have been worse if he was pointing at the A's dugout instead of his)
and the jerks in the stands and at Jillians
but you can't fault a whole team for a couple of people
it going to be a great series
Cowboy up Boys!
sox in 7 and bring on the Cubs!
Bad Joke for Paul:
3 baseball fans are out back of the All Star game and see a naked woman passed out in the street.
The fans (Yankees, Mets, Red Sox) all take off their caps and place them on the girl.
The Red Sox fan covers 1 breast, the Mets fan the other, and the Yankees fan the genital area.
Along comes a cop and sees this suspicious activity and questions the men about what they are doing.
He then takes out his notepad and tries to put the crime together He lifts off the Sox hat, puts it back down, does the same with the Mets hat, then gets to the Yankees hat... he takes it on and off the genitals a dozen times and then starts writing something in his notepad.
One of the guys says "hey, what are you doing officer? You some kind of perv?"
To which the officer replies "Nope, itıs just that when I usually look under a Yankees cap, I see an asshole."
For us soccer few out there, the Metrostars made the Mls Playoffs and are in the US open Cup final.
well said, but i must say i still believe in the royals!!! at least they are not the red sox?
I can't wait for the Red Sox-Cubs World Series. If that isn't the final sign of the apocalypse, I don't know what is.
When it gets to two outs in the ninth inning of game 7 and one or the other teams is up a run and the center fielder settles under the pop fly... you know the world is about to end.
for the love of crap everyone here listens to too many old ass baseball anouncers about manny ramirez..im no boston fan but why is he an ass?..because the announcer bitched about it? There is something special about sports in america and some of that comes from talking shit. In every game we watch there is trash talk and players should not get ostrisized for apreciating there work..IN basketball a player dunks and does a pose under the basket and yells at the camera...in football randy moss doesa double biceps after eveytouchdown and points at the stands...there is no better singular achievemnt in sports than hitting a homerun..its only you..no teamates helped you...you did it..you beat the pitcher..so not only should youo not have to trot down to 1st base like notrhing happened even though you just hit a 3 run home run in an elimation game of th eplayoff which the other team will never come back from...you shold be able to walk slow..point at the stands...and give the pitcher a big suck it...Its for you and for your fans...i guarantee everyone in boston loved that..and if it was a cub i guarantee everyone in chicago would have loved it...and please dont give me the argument that baseball is pure and blah blah blah blah...thats only cause its old and nobody shit talked back then...the game doesnt change but the people who play it do and they grew up knowing that when you kicked a kickball onto the roof of the school you talk shit.
Ramirez's conduct, while commonplace in basketball and football, is not acceptable in baseball. Sure, you can do it. Just don't expect anyone to like you for it. 99% of players manage to trot around the bases just fine without taking several seconds to get moving.
I can't wait for the next time that blockhead forgets how many outs there are or fails to run out a fly pop or lazily watches a ball drop in front of him. Talent was wasted on this jerk.
You're right, Paul, in that there isn't as much to complain about in baseball as many of the complainers believe, but some of your points are open to debate.
Re reason #1 (games end too late). Without disputing your facts, I would disagree with your conclusion. If the 9th inning begins at 11p.m. on the east coast, and likely ends -- let's be generous -- with 30 minutes 'till midnight, that IS too late for a large segment of fans that baseball should care about: the ones who will be buying the tickets in 10 years. Either we need more afternoon/evening games in the playoffs, or something should be done to ensure that a 9-inning game does not take longer than 3 hours. Staying up until tomorrow might be fine for you and me, but it's no way to treat an 8-year-old who just wants to see his team get that last out. And, I might add, it's no way to treat his 3rd-grade teacher.
Re reason #3 (competitive balance) -- you're right, to a certain degree; the Cubs and Red Sox, both big spenders, have actually managed NOT to screw it up big time this year, as they usually do (well, as the Cubs usually do at least). For a franchise to make the playoffs consistently, however, it still needs both money and front-office skill; and both are still distributed unevenly. Unequal distribution of skill is fine with me; by all means, reward the teams who have the best general managers. But unequal distribution of finances? Punish a great organization in (for example) Montreal because no matter how many stars they produce, they will never be able to hold on to them? Not fair.
A truer test of competitive equality, and the health of the small-market game, is not how often the Richie Riches of baseball can shuffle the October deck amongst themselves, but whether or not a team that develops a fine player -- a Jason Giambi, a Randy Johnson, a Barry Bonds -- can afford to hold on to him.
Of course, that joke is told in Chicago with the last hat being from a White Sox fan.... ;-)
LETS GO CUBS!!
