Today is a day of mourning for my family and friends.
I will be attending a memorial for LeRoy Homer, one of the American Airlines pilots of Flight 93. LeRoy and his then pregnant wife are my neighbors. I will later attend a memorial for a lifelong friend that died in NYC when the South Tower collapsed.
I lost more than a neighbor and a life long friend on 9/11. My 20 year old brother, who is in the Air Force, got called to duty. My cousin, who is in the Army, got called to duty and is still in Iraq. I lost my sense of security, as well.
We live in the land of the free and home of the brave, and must not forget that . Our troops are fighting to protect the freedom and liberty that we have taken for granted until 9/11/01. They are also eliminating our enemies so we do not have future attacks on our nation. Support our troops.
Whether or not you lost someone you knew on 9/11, pray for the children who lost parents, people who lost spouses and parents who lost their children. Pray for the military families who have lost a loved one while fighting the war on terrorism on foreign soil. Today, reflect on how lucky we are to be American.
God Bless America, My Home Sweet Home.
Amen to that. Cass you said it perfectly.
Paul, those pictures, even without words, gave me chills down my spine.
I was in Trinidad working on a labor strike when it all happened. Cell phones in the meeting room went off in succession. Our receptionist burst into the room and guided us the the TV where CNN (only channel available there) broadcast the mayhem.
When the shock and terror I was feeling dissapated, my thought turned to "That's all you got? You boys done screwed up big time because we will ferret you out of every rat cave in this world and bring you to justice. Nobody does this to the US and if they do, the full force and might of our citizenry will do what it takes to ensure it damn sure doesn't happen again."
Those were my thoughts. I had no personal relations there in NY, DC or that field in PA (let us not forget them), so my perspective is different and while I think mourning is an essential part to our country's reaction to this horrific act, I equally believe these bastards cannot win.
They may have caused me to take off my shoes at the airport, but we will completely erradicate THEM in due course.
They will not win!
God bless the US and to those of us that do and will continue to come for ages to come.
Peace to you today Paul. I have no words of meaning.
And let's not forget the many injured survivors, also victims, who continue to live with both the physical and emotional injuries of that day.
20,000 body parts is morbid. Sorry, "jeez."
